Travel planning

Our day to day life brings us many places, but when you are travelling for pure leisure, let’s just say you don’t want any added stresses. Unfortunately, when travelling to destinations less familiar, accidents happen. While some things you may not be able to control, there are many precautions you can take before stepping out of the house and heading out to explore the unknown.

Know Where You Can Get Help.

You may know what number to call or where to go when you are at home, but when you travel you need to know where those points of safety will be before you leave. Create a list of numbers and addresses for the hospital and other help lines in your area.

Be Like a Local.

Before heading out for the day, plan out your route. Be aware of your surroundings and the popular habits and activities of locals. Dress the part, too. Standing out as a tourist is tempting for pickpockets or other threats, so try to look like you belong and know where you’re headed.

Keep a Safety Kit.

Make sure you are stocked in the case of an emergency. Keep a safety kit in your car if you are headed on a road trip; if you break down in the middle of nowhere or an emergency happens – you are prepared. Vacations usually consist of a lot of time on foot, too, and who knows what may become absolutely necessary in the middle of a long hike.

Keep updated on the weather.

Always be aware of the weather before you go anywhere. Weather affects your activities for the day, mode of travel, attire, and even your chances of accidents. Make sure you are prepared for anything Mother Nature is planning on throwing your direction.

Copy Your Important Documents.

Don’t forget to make photocopies of all important documents that you will bring on your trip, such as your ID, Passport or important contact numbers. Store these copies in two different places, not in a single bag. This way, if one bag gets lost, you still have another Passport handy when passing through customs, for example.

Have a Home Safety Plan.

When you are away from home for a long period, you must make sure that your home and belongings will be protected until you get back. Have a habit of locking your doors, windows, and any other outlets through which an intruder may enter. Have trustworthy neighbors check in on your home and make sure nothing looks awry. There are many ways to ensure that you come to your home, safe and sound.

Buy Travel Insurance When You Book.

Check into your travel insurance options. Travel insurance can cover things from stolen baggage, physical accidents, medical concerns, and trip delays.

Of course, with every place you adventure, there will be specific things for which you will need to plan. Read up before you pack your bags -with these tips, you will be more relaxed on your vacation. Safe travels!
